Pollution Prevention in Mining
and Mineral Processing

Based on the U.S. Bureau of Mines handbook, "Pollution Prevention in Mining and Mineral Processing - Waste Assessments for Mines and Mills," this course will provide a step-by-step operating procedure proven to reduce costs associated with mine pollution. Pollution prevention is less expensive than the more common recycling, treatment, and/or disposal methods used for many mine wastes.

The course will emphasize the philosophy of environmental leadership achieved through the involvement of all mine and mill personnel as a means of cutting costs, reducing liability, and creating a positive public image.

Guidebooks, authored by the Technical Coordinator of this course, will be made available from the U.S. Geological Survey.
