Supervisory Rights and Responsibilities
Under the Mine Safety and Health Act of 1997

This course will cover several primary topics including (1) an historical and political perspective of the Mine Act's primary provisions, MSHA organization and the Mine Safety and Health Review Commission; (2) an overview of the Mine Act's enforcement tools; (3) the specifics of handling the inspection process; (4) special loss control considerations in accident investigations; (5) understanding and avoiding individual civil and criminal liability potential for agents, officers, and directors; and (6) understanding and avoiding discrimination claims under the Mine Act. The length of the course will be approximately 6 hours, and teaching techniques will include lecture, discussion, case studies and role-playing using examples from actual cases.
