Benefits of CCACS Membership

CCACS exists for the purpose of assisting industry to become involved in the commercialization of space. In order to further that goal, NASA has funded the center at a stable base level of $1 million per year. These funds are used to support faculty and students in projects are directly relevant to the needs of the industrial members, allowing industry to support directed research at reduced cost.  The center receives supplemental funding for design, development and operation of space flight hardware, thereby further leveraging industry dollars.  Industry researchers are encouraged to become involved directly with the center projects, contributing in-kind support in the form of personnel time, use of equipment, provision of samples, and support of graduate students. If appropriate, the students can be assigned to work on projects of interest to the center at the industrial member's site.

In addition to the center base and space flight hardware funding, and far overshadowing it in magnitude, is the access to space provided to center members by NASA. Considering that access costs run roughly $10,000 per pound of experimental payload, the leveraging of industrial dollars in the center can be enormous.   CCACS thus represents an excellent investment opportunity for any company that has a product or process which can benefit from space research.  An added public relations benefit comes from the association of the member's research with NASA research, which is promoted extensively by NASA and CCACS.  The member is free to advertise this association, using the CCACS and NASA logos in accordance with established guidelines as published at http://www.nasa.gov.  Members are encouraged to make mention of the CCACS and NASA research connections in their annual reports.
