Description of Funds:

The National Science Foundation's Computer Science, Engineering and Mathematics Scholarships program has awarded the Colorado School of Mines scholarship funds. The purpose of these funds is to support and attract women and minority students to the fields of Computer Science, Engineering and Mathematics. Forty one-year scholarships (20 undergraduate and 20 graduate) in the amount $3,125 ($1562.50 per semester) will be awarded during the 2002-03 academic year. These scholarships may be renewed for an additional year after the initial award.

As part of this grant, all scholarship recipients will be expected to participate in five hours of research each week. These research projects are expected to be at a substantive level. In the fall of 2002, eligible undergraduate students must be entering their junior year and eligible graduate students must be approximately two years from completing their degrees.

The purpose of this notice is to solicit applications of qualified students.

Qualifications for all scholarship recipients:

Must be United States citizens, permanent resident or aliens admitted as refugees at the time of application.
Must be enrolled full-time in computer science, engineering or mathematics degree programs and must maintain full-time status throughout duration of the scholarship.
Scholarships are available to female and minority students only.

Qualifications for all Undergraduate recipients:

Must have financial need that can be verified through the financial aid office.
Must be entering their junior year in the fall of 2002.
Must have a grade point average of at least a 3.0.
If the applicant is a first year transfer student, the student must have a grade point average of at least a 3.0 at their last institution.
Must have an average grade of a "B" in their freshman and sophomore EPICS courses.

Qualifications for all Graduate Recipients:

Must have financial need, defined by eligibility for Graduate Assistance.
Must have a grade point average of at least 3.0.
Must have approximately two years until the completion of their degree (Masters or Ph.D.).

Application MUST include the following:

Completed application form.

Three letters of recommendations from faculty members.

A resume.

Evidence of financial need.

If you are a first year undergraduate transfer student, an official copy of your transcript from your previous institution.
