Gas hydrates, hydrogen storage, and phase equilibria

Education:

2004-2005 Postdoctoral fellow at Delft University of Technology focusing on hydrogen storage in gas hydrates, the effect of organic promoters on the phase equilibria.

2000-2004 Ph.D., Chemical Engineering. Universidad Nacional del Sur. Phase Equilibria for Hydrogenation Processes in Supercritical Media.

Current Research at CHR:

Hydrogen hydrates were suggested as storage material for hydrogen, but form at extremely high-pressure (typically 220 MPa at 249K) which makes them impractical for use. The use of THF to stabilize the sII structure decreases the pressure down to 5 MPa at 279.6 K but, at the same time, lowering its storage capacity. The single or multiple occupancy of the cavities by hydrogen molecules, and the effect of promoter molecules on the phase equilibria are questions still remaining. The aim of this project is to find the answer to those questions and extend the investigation to other possible storage materials for the coming hydrogen economy.
