The Colorado Institute for Fuels and High Altitude Engine Research,
CIFER, is a Research Center of the Colorado School of Mines.
It strives to be a world-wide authority on emissions from mobile
sources operating at high altitude. In addressing this goal,
CIFER shall work in its federally designated role as the National
High-Altitude Heavy-Duty Research and Technology Center and with
its various University member departments toward providing new
data on high altitude characteristics, and evaluating and developing
fuel savings and emissions reduction technologies for light and
heavy on-road and off-road vehicles operating at high altitude.
CIFER will advise policy making bodies and other interested parties
on the special conditions of vehicle operation at high altitude
and will work closely with industry and government to tailor programs
to support their needs. An important facet of CIFER's mission
is the education of young scientists and engineers by providing
opportunities for applied and fundamental research for undergraduate
and graduate students at the Colorado School of Mines and other
centers of education.
As approved 5/24/93 by CIFER Advisory Committee
