Shown below is an example of the Heating Rate versus Temperature plot produced by AxiTherm.

The heating rate is presented at 6 locations as indicated by the depth given on the plot. Negative heating rates are indicative of cooling rates at the location in the piece.

The simulation was performed for a 48 inch diameter piece of 1040 steel initially at 100F. The thermal cycle consists of heating in a furnace for 720 minute (12 hours) from 1000F to 1300F (giving a heating rate of 25F/hr), followed by a hold at 1300F for 360 minutes (6 hours), then heating from 1300F to 1700F in 240 minutes (4 hours) (which is a heating rate of 100F/hr), followed by a hold at 1700F for 1440 minutes (24 hours), then a quench into 150F water for 360 minutes (6 hours).
