EIS/Biorem3D is a W95 automated environmental modeling platform that integrates data management (geographical, physical, and chemical), site characterization, grid design, simulation of flow, migration, visualization, and scriptable interactions of multiple chemical species of 12 interacting plumes of chemicals, nutrients, and daughter products in saturated 3D media. Graphical Interface allows building a model and analyzing health risks on the fly. Models are built in 6 steps: (1) import raster map from GIS, satellite image, Clipboard, or Autocad images; (2) select features from toolbox; (3) generate 3D grid and parameters (e.g. kriging); (4) simulate, view, calibrate; (5) examine health risk of exposure, based upon EPA criteria; (6) assess the quality of results and create report. Telescoped models with higher horizontal/vertical resolution and data/boundary compatibility with the regional case are automatically generated. Tools include, zoom, pointer, distance, log points, transects, elevation contours, annotation, data capturing window, and rotation of the 3D view. Modules include: MODFLOW; MIFLOW generalized 3D flow module including slurry walls, liners and faults; BIOREM-3D for 3D multi-species (6 contaminants) migration simulation and interaction with up to six nutrients and by-products (e.g. oxygen, nitrates, sulfates, ferrous iron, methane); CAPTURE for a 3D capture-zone delineation including the formation's assimilative capacity. Transport simulation includes molecular diffusion, mechanical dispersion (with cross-terms), linear equilibrium sorption, nonlinear sorption (Freundlich and Langmuir), ion exchange using the selectivity coefficient, and decay. Chemical reaction paths are entirely scriptable and editable for any combination of chemicals, nutrients and daughter products. A template with the standard aerobic and anaerobic biodegradation of hydrocarbons by interaction with up to six aerobic and anaerobic nutrients/ by-products using Monod-kinetics is provided. Cyanide reactions and other chemical reaction templates are also available. Output includes 2D & 3D contours of heads, health exposure risk and concentrations, 2D & 3D visualization of vector fields, time series graphs and zone-budget. Risk of exposure is assessed from the Lifetime Average Daily Intake (LADI) estimates based on concentration levels at "receptors" as projected by the models. Video clips and video animation of results can be created. Graphics can be saved as ASCII tables, or directly printed. Graphical screens can be captured and exported with the Clipboard. Includes manual, executables, and tutorials.
