HST2D/3D is a finite difference computer model for the simulation of heat and solute transport in saturated porous media. The model is based on the original HST3D model developed by the USGS (Kipp, 1986), and is revised and extended by Verbeek Consultants for IF Technology in the Netherlands. HST2D/3D has the following features: density of water is a function of temperature and solute concentration; calculation takes into account the intrinsic permeability and the influence of viscosity and density on the effective permeability; horizontal, vertical and radial symmetric and 3D grid; saturated flow; transient flow; different types of transient boundary conditions for pressure, temperature and solute (fixed value; fixed flux; heat conduction; leaky boundary; linear sorption and first order decay; maximum 20.000 nodes and 50 wells; 50 soil characteristics zones. Applications include: salt/fresh water interface problems; density driven groundwater transport; aquifer thermal energy storage; soil heat exchangers; and ground water remediation.
Simulation includes: contours, velocity vectors and well performance graphs are displayed on screen during simulation; a choice of quick iterative or direct solver; and well control during simulation. Output processor yields surfer/grapher and dxf output; contour plots, velocity vectors and well performance graphs.
