The project aims at reducing roof and rib fall accidents in entries in deep longwall mines. Backanalysis and numerical modeling studies are being carried out to improve the understanding of yielding behavior of coal pillars during both development and longwall mining stages. The project is expected to provide rationally based methodologies and guidelines for safer entry layout designs in longwall mines.
