The goal of this project is to develop and test equipment for scaling down loose rock from mine openings using high-pressure water, and to investigate the adhesion characteristics of shotcrete applied to rock surfaces scaled with high-pressure water. The health and safety benefits of the project are 1) miners are removed from high risk areas of the mining face during the scaling operation thus reducing their exposure to rock falls, and 2) the adhesion characteristics of shotcrete applied as a ground support member improve substantially, thus improving the overall stability of the mine opening.
