AWARDS:
All graduating seniors are eligible for departmental awards and are selected by the
degree-granting department.
These awards are presented at graduation each semester. Open awards are
presented only at the Spring Commencement and winning applicants are
selected by the Awards Committee. However, all
seniors graduating in May or December are eligible to apply for the open
awards (described below), and must
submit a resume and letter
to the Awards Committee outlining activities (both school and community),
interests, thoughts about CSM, and hopes and plans for the future.
Those who entered Mines as transfer students should specify the college they entered from and the number of
semesters they have been enrolled at CSM (excluding summer sessions).
Since the Committee does not know each
student personally, it is important letters reflect all the information
requested. It is also helpful to
have a letter of recommendation from your advisor or a professor in your major
department. LET YOUR DEPARTMENT KNOW ABOUT YOUR INTEREST TO APPLY
.
The Colorado Engineering
Council Award is based on integrity, scholarship, citizenship, personality,
school activities, and athletics. Three
students will be chosen, one medalist, and two certificate winners.
The Waltman Award is
a monetary award and a plaque is presented as well. To be eligible, you must be in the upper 10% of your
graduating class; be American born; must not have been involved in disciplinary
problems; must have completed four years of courses and have been in-residence for
six regular semesters. You will not be considered for this award unless you submit a
letter to the Committee as outlined above.
Your letter should be addressed to:
Student Honor Awards Committee, c/o Vice
President for Student Life, Colorado School of Mines, Golden, Colorado
80401; or you may bring it to the
Office of the Vice President for Student Life. Deadline for receipt of your award application letters is
the first week in March.
If you
are selected as the recipient of an award, you will be notified before the end
of April. Please be sure your email
or correct mailing address is listed so you can receive notification in
a timely manner. You may address
any questions to Eve Jordal, 303/273-3231 or ejordal@mines.edu.
