The Residence Hall Program at Colorado School of Mines is dedicated to facilitating the development of the whole student, emotionally, intellectually, and physically. In addition to attaining this goal, the Residence Halls are designed to provide a variety of experiences, opportunities, and services.

Residence Hall life is an integral part of your education. In addition to providing housing facilities which enable you to meet your educational objectives, the Residence Halls offer educational programs within your living environment designed to complement your intellectual growth. In striving to develop a sense of community which facilitates your total development, it is recognized that much of the desired success of the Residence Hall program is dependent upon the meaningful relationships which you develop and the degree to which you are willing to accept responsibility for an active role in your own education. Inherent in this concept is the acknowledgement of your individual worth, dignity, and potential to achieve a well-rounded education. In keeping with this recognition, the Residence Hall program encourages you to assume an active role in making decisions which are relevant to all aspects of your life.

Essential to the implementation of this Residence Hall philosophy are the continuing efforts to achieve self-identity and develop meaningful relationships. These needs are provided for, in part, through community living. All members of the Residence Hall community will strive to attain a balance between maximum individual freedom and institutional order. This relates directly to the issue of rights and responsibilities which is the basic and active component of the Residence Life Program.

Residence Halls

·                    Cable TV Access:
An expanded basic cable TV connection is available in each student room in the Residence Halls. This service is included in your room and board charges. Students may order premium channels, HDTV, or pay-per-view at their own expense. Information sheets regarding additional
Comcast services will be provided to the students at the beginning of the school year. Cable cords must be checked out from the front desk.

·                    Computer Connections:
Since August 1996, campus network connections have been available in all Residence Hall rooms. Upon your arrival your R
esident Assistant or the front desk administrative assistant will assist you in getting the proper paperwork filled out to complete your connection to the network and supply you with the proper connection cord. Students are expected to use the network connections within the guidelines outlined in the computer use agreement paperwork. Since August 2006, wireless network connections have been available in Weaver Towers and the Traditional Residence Halls (Residence Halls at Mines Park will have wireless connectivity in the near future). Again, students are expected to follow all CSM usage guidelines when utilizing the wireless network.

Students are encouraged to protect all electrical appliances/equipment through a quality power surge protection system. Although the hall electrical systems were updated and/or modernized a number of years ago, spikes and noise may occur given the high volume of usage and wide range of equipment employed by students.

·                    Phone Service:
All student rooms are on the campus phone system. This allows students to simply dial the last four digits of other student rooms and campus offices when making internal calls. However, when making an off-campus call from a campus phoneline, the caller must dial "9" first, to access an outside line. Because the
Denver area requires ten-digit dialing rules, the area code must precede the seven-digit standard number for any call. The phone prefix for the Residence Halls is "215" for Weaver Towers, the Traditions Residence Halls, and "869" for the Residence Halls at Mines Park. This means when calling into the Residence Halls from an off-campus location the number will read, "303-215-_ _ _ _" or "303-869-_ _ _ _". The area code for campus is (303).

·                    TV Lounges :
There are tv lounges provided
in the east and west first floor lounges at Weaver Towers, the community center ain the Residence Halls at Mines Park, and a combined TV/Study lounge known as the VanDerworker lounge which is located between Morgan and Thomas Halls.

·                    Items for Checkout:
The Residence Hall Desks located in the Perez Lounge between Bradford and Thomas Hall and at the main entrance to
Weaver Towers provide a variety of items for check-out including, but not limited to, vacuum cleaners, cleaning supplies, tools, games and athletic equipment. The desks also provide change for vending machines, stamps, and phone numbers for currently registered students.

·                    Mail Service:
Mail service is provided to the Residence Halls Monday through Saturday. All mail should be addre
ssed as follows:

Student's Name
Residence Hall, Room #
Golden, CO 80401

Note: DO NOT include Colorado School of Mines in your address as this may delay your mail.
