Life away from home requires a number of common, everyday items, many of which are easily forgotten in the confusion of planning for school. The following may be helpful to consider as you prepare to move into the CSM Residence Halls.

Bare Necessities

  • Bath kit - Soap and soap case, shampoo, deodorant, hair brush, comb, small mirror, toothpaste, dental floss, toothbrush, drinking cup, shaving implements
  • Towel set (washcloth, bath towel, etc.)
  • Hair dryer
  • Cosmetics
  • Facial tissues
  • Other personal toiletries
  • Shower caddy or similar plastic carry-all
    Notes: Toilet paper is provided in all restrooms.

Bed & Linen

  • Mattress pad/cover
  • Pillow and pillow case
  • Extra long twin-style sheets (80" x 36")
  • Comforter/blanket

Laundry

  • Laundry bag or hamper
  • Detergent
  • Fabric Softener
  • Steamer/Iron
    Notes: Laundry facilities are coin-operated and can also be used with the BlasterCard. Change can be obtained at both residence hall desks and at the Student Center lobby desk.

Closet & Storage

  • Hangers
  • Storage boxes/crates
  • Closet organizer
    Notes: Closet space is limited; plan your wardrobe carefully. You will need a "business formal" outfit for class presentations, etc.

Desk/Office Supply

  • Desk drawer organizer
  • Basic desk set - pens, pencils, eraser, paper clips, rubber bands, tape, sticky-notes, hi-lighter marker
  • Scissors, stapler, ruler, hole punch
  • Desk lamp (no halogens, per fire code)
  • Stationary, envelopes, postcards, stamps
  • Graphing calculator
  • Computer and printer
  • A4/letter-size printing paper
  • Book bag, 3-ring binder(s), notebooks, etc.
    Notes: Currently, graphing calculators from TI and HP are favorites at CSM. As some fields of study favor one type over the other, you may wish to delay your purchasing decision until after arriving on campus. A personal computer and printer are recommended. Graphing calculators and numerous office supplies are also available from the CSM Bookstore.

Miscellaneous Essentials

  • First Aid Kit - Band-Aids, disinfectant, disposable hand gloves, aspirin, cold/flu medications
  • Cleaning items - Mini-vac, small broom, rags, paper towels, glass cleaner, hand-wipes
  • Tools/supplies for car, etc - Jumper cables, gripping pliers, wire cutter, socket set, Philips screwdriver, duct tape
  • Memo board
    Notes: Many of these items are available at the Residence Halls front desks for your use.

Food and snack-related

  • Can opener
  • Plastic dish an bowl, mug, drinking glass, silverware, microwave-safe dish
  • Instant soup, hot chocolate, tea, coffee, cereal, etc
    Notes: Due to space limitations, we strongly suggest that you make arrangements with your roommate to have only one refrigerator and one microwave per room.

Luxury Items

  • Stereo
  • TV/VCR/DVD player
  • Small sofa or easy chair
  • Cordless telephone

  • Sewing kit
