Philanthropy- Alpha Phi Foundation
Our Chapter donates to the Alpha Phi Foundation by holding a Fall Clean and Spring Clean each year. This is where we go out into the community and help people clean up their houses performing chores such as yardwork, window cleaning, helping people move, etc. Each year internationals has set a target amount for our chapter to meet, and each year we have exceeded this amount. In 2002, our chapter also recieved the Excellence in Philanthropy Programming Award from Internationals.
Iota Zeta Chapter of Alpha Phi at Colorado School of Mines voluntary financial contributions to Alpha Phi Foundation:
FALL 2006 SPRING 2007Raised $1000
Raised $1000Since Alpha Phi began in 1872, all its growth has been the result of the commitment and vision of members and friends. Their good will, hard work, and unswerving belief in all that Alpha Phi stands for have made a difference in the lives of many.
In 1957, the Alpha Phi Foundation (the first such foundation for a women's greek organization) was created as a means to channel that commitment and vision, to put that belief in Alpha Phi to work in powerful ways. The foundation's main focus is on cardiac care, which is the number one disease killer for women. The money raised through the foundation aids women with heart problems and helps continue research for cardiac care. In addition, the foundation supplies scholarships to Alpha Phi members and provides money to members or alumni in need. Through the foundation, Alpha Phi has reached out to increasing numbers of people, offering support for those in need.
Service
"Service-learning is a form of experiential education in which students engage in activities that address human and community needs together with structured opportunities intentionally designed to promote student learning and development. Reflection and reciprocity are key concepts of service-learning."
In addition to raising money for the foundation, the Iota Zeta Chapter of Alpha Phi volunteers for events that benefit the community.
