MEETING MINUTES |

January 17, 2008 EBW, OUT WITH THE OLD... We had an incredible turn-out for our first meeting of the semester, thank you all for coming! Even with the room only holding seats for 11, I'm still impressed we had a ring of people sitting along the baseboards. EBW is ready to pick up and run this year. A recap of the meeting: We reviewed the four projects the club is focusing on this year: Senegal, Ghana, Bicycle drive, and Recycling/Sustainability on campus. A lot of work needs to be done for all of these projects and we have an equally large amount of interest from the club members. Some additional ideas and offshoots were proposed and these will come out as the semester progresses. IN WITH THE NEW... On to this week, the first item of business is to secure a bigger meeting room. Alex Gan is working on this task and we will have a new venue for next week's meeting (same time and day). There will again be pizza, provided generously by the Golden Rotary Club through Warren Spaulding. Please RSVP to me at jfish@mines.edu by Monday, January 21, 5pm so we can order enough food. This next section will become a regular element of the weekly e-mail updates. Here will be the tasks agreed upon at meetings as best I know them. If anyone has a differing idea about what to do, should be done, or just has questions, contact me immediately. I am constantly checking e-mail and my cell phone numbers is 303.847.6143. People with tasks to do:
SOAP BOX... Communication is extremely important for this club to get anywhere. I don't expect all these items to be done by next week. I know we are all busy and I've already been delayed in sending this e-mail out due to workload. Since it is early in the semester, we won't be asking for hard time commitments until everyone has a good feel for their schedules. Even then, this club should not take precedence over homework, sleep, or other important parts of our lives, so if you have trouble getting something done, let me know. The real bottom line is, we won't have huge issues and problems if we all just communicate well. Leadership. We will be dividing the projects into groups of students with at least one member of these small project teams as the Project Leader. The Project Leaders will be in charge of organizing the other students working on the project, keeping tabs on how it's going and relaying this information to me and the rest of the club. I can't handle being in charge of all these projects at once so I really need some help here guys. We established at this last meeting that some of you would be willing to assume these roles and I believe this kind of structure will keep this club alive and active more. The reason EBW struggled in the past was the inadequate structure to the projects. LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT TO LEAD ONE OF THE FOUR PROJECTS. I've already gotten a good response from Ashley about heading up the bicycle project (please correct me if I'm wrong). Again, I don't expect a real decision on project leaders until a few weeks of semester have gone by. You younger members are the continuing life of this club. I am SO glad to see your faces each week because it makes me have hope EBW will go on strong, even when we are all graduated and gone. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, January 22, from noon - 1pm in a room TBA. I will e-mail everyone again as soon as I find out where we will be. Pizza will be served, so please RSVP by Monday, January 21, by 5pm. THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH FOR A FANTASTIC START TO THE YEAR! Your President, Jason Fish EBW Prez jfish@mines.edu |
