March 27, 2008 NEXT MEETING We will meet in CO 137 at 12noon on Tuesday, April 1 (Watch out for the practical jokes). Lunch provided. I hope to cover each of the four projects we've been trying to tackle this semester. Involvement in Climate Action Days (related to recycling) and the Bike Share program will take priority, but I'd like to get some initial steps taken in the Ghana and Senegal efforts. Project leaders for these latter two projects, we should schedule a time to meet. I know there are students who cannot make the Tuesday meetings who want to be involved. 3/25 MEETING MINUTES In attendance: Rob, Ana, Natalie, Jon, Ashley, Alex, Shay, Andrea, Warren, David, Jason First, we talked about the bicycle project. Shay reported about the meeting between all EPICS 2 teams working on the bike share program. This meeting happened Thursday, March 27 (tonight), at 6pm in the Engineering Annex. We will hear more about its results at next Tuesday's meeting. The Bike Display + poster is now hanging in the Student Center (so I'm told). I will investigate soon, and this will get the word out quite well. We are thinking of expanding the displays to include some in the CTLM and maybe the Rec Center. Climate Action Days is coming soon! We are looking for speaker ideas and other events to host/create for this year's CAD. Jon Meuser of the Student Council on Sustainability is a driving force behind CAD plans, but needs help. So far, we have several panels on climate change from different perspectives, a movie ("Chill Out" - look it up), and a confirmed speaker from NCAR (National Center for Atmospheric Research). Plus, there will be a party on campus for Earth Day (4/22). If you have any ideas for speakers or want to help, contact Jon at jmeuser@mines.edu. EBW is hoping to incorporate the Recycling Project into a recycling forum with EH&S and Facilities Management people and others as panelists. We finished up the meeting by watching a slide show of pictures from David Frossard and myself on our trip to Mongolia and China with the McBride Honors program in Summer '07. There were some really good shots and funny stories. PARTING SHOTS Contact Andrea Yocom, ayocom@mines.edu, if you are interested in volunteering with Habitat for Humanity on Saturday, April 26. This should be a great opportunity to get involved with a humanitarian project and build a connection between our club and Habitat for future work. Please RSVP soon! See you all in a few days! I'll keep you posted on developments with these projects. Jason Fish EBW Prez jfish@mines.edu |
