NEWS

Welcome Back!

Hello!

Thank you to all who came to the first meeting of EWB this semester. I have added the e-mails and names given to me at the meeting (as well as those of you who sent your information to me electronically) to the list serve, so you'll be getting all updates and notices from here on out.

FIRST MEETING REVIEW
We heard updates on the bicycle-sharing program, the bike-powered water pump project, the water de-salinization project, and our efforts to improve recycling and promote sustainability on campus. More detailed descriptions can be found on the club website at www.mines.edu/stu_life/organ/ebw. We also heard from representatives of the Golden Rotary Club about the progress on forming a Rotaract club in conjunction with EWB. I will upload more detailed minutes to the club website as soon as possible.

NEXT MEETING
Due to a large majority of you telling me the Tuesday lunch meeting time is good, we'll keep it there for now. For those of you who cannot make it to these meetings, you can still be involved! The projects we work on will be handled by teams of EWB students under a project leader. These teams will have meetings outside the general one. If you want to be part of a project, contact me or go to our club website: and check out the "Projects" tab for details, and the "Officers" tab for contact information. Find out how you can work your schedule into the project team's.

On the note of same time same place, we'll be having our second meeting this coming Tuesday, 9/9, in AH 140, from 12 - 1 again. Food will be provided so I need RSVP by Sunday evening at 5pm.

We will go over officer openings, (hopefully) hear a presentation from the local EWB representative, break into project groups, and discuss what we should do for our first 'fun meeting,' coming up the following week. Bring any ideas you have; all are welcome. If you want to adjust the agenda, just e-mail me and we'll talk about it.

The last item of importance is officer options. Here's a proposed list of officer positions (and duties) EWB needs right now:
  1. Secretary: takes notes at meetings, gives completed meeting minutes to webmaster for upload to website
  2. Webmaster: updates club website with meeting minutes, project descriptions, photos, project leader info, contact information and the like. Our previous webmaster, Andrea, is available to give training and tips.
  3. Social Chair: brainstorms and plans fun meeting events for the club (e.g. movies, speakers)

Unless there are any complaints about the current leadership, we'll hold elections near semester's end for ALL positions (including the above ones). Here are the positioned people as of now:
  1. President - Jason Fish
  2. Vice President - combination of Rob Conley and Alex Gan
  3. Meeting/Food Coordinator - Alex Gan

If you have any questions, contact me at jfish@mines.edu.

Have a great weekend and hopefully we'll see you all next Tuesday!
