The Research Fair is an annual event open to all CSM graduate students,
offering an opportunity to showcase research and win cash prizes and
recognition for
excellence in the substance of that research.
PRESENTERS: POSTERS TO BE DISPLAYED SHOULD BE PRINTED IN LANDSCAPE FORMAT WITH LIMITATIONS ON SIZE BEING 36" TALL X 48" WIDE.
IF THEY ARE PRINTED BIGGER THAN THESE DIMENSIONS THEY WILL NOT
FIT ON THE POSTER BOARDS WE PROVIDE AND WILL NOT BE DISPLAYED. WE
WILL SUPPLY CLIPS AND PINS FOR ATTACHMENT TO THE BOARDS. IF YOU

Students submit abstracts for a poster session. During the poster
session, students will be required to give a 2-3 minute presentation
explaining their posters to the judges. There will be a morning and
afternoon poster sessions this year, along with lunch. The
afternoon poster session will be followed by a wine and cheese banquet, then the student poster and outstanding faculty awards.
The morning and afternoon poster sessions will be held from
8:30-11:00AM and 12:30-2:00PM, respectively, in the Ballrooms of the
Student Center. Presenters will be expected to be at their poster
for the 1.5 hour periods of their respective session and ready to speak
to the judges.
In addition to a monetary prize, the winning posters from each category
(Undergrad, MS, and PhD) will receive an award recognizing their
outstanding
research. The prizes will be distributed as follows: 1st place
will receive $500, $350 for second, and $200 for third, for the MS and
PhD posters, and an cash award for the best Undergrad research poster.
RULES FOR ENTRY:
Applicants must be
enrolled as and undergraduate or graduate students at CSM
The research presented must be based on data collected by the student
(no research proposals)
Applicants must be able to present their research at the Research Fair
Students may not place if they have placed in a previous Research Fair
presentation session (in other words, if you've won money presenting a poster or presentation in the past, you can't win again);
however, previous winners may still submit a poster as an opportunity
to display their research, and previous poster session winners are
still eligible to place.
SELECTION PROCESS:
All applicants
submitting abstracts which fulfull the above requirements will be able
to participate in the Research Fair by presenting a poster. Judges will
determine the winners at the Research Fair, in each category (Undergrad, MS, & PhD).
APPLICATION:
Complete the
application page with the information requested to identify yourself,
your connection with CSM, and the nature of your research, including a
short (one paragraph) abstract.
Abstract submission will be open until 5PM on April 3rd, 2008.
Abstracts should be submitted by email in the attached file format to Misty Konopacki (mkonopac@mines.edu).
