With CollegeLax releasing its second poll during the season, CSM has moved from 41st place to 25th (50 points) after two ten goal games vs. Metro State College and University of Nebraska, Omaha. This comes after being ranked 35th in the preseason poll and not playing any games before the first poll was released two weeks ago. (Mines was ranked 27th at the end of last year.) Also putting out continuous stats is LaxPower.com. According to their strictly mathimatical approach, Mines is currently ranked at #3 just behind Westminster and Savannah Art & Design.
This is the second time that Mines has broken the top 25 poll barior for the whole nation. "It's pretty sweet, but we need to be higher," said defensive captain Trent Noonan.
"It's a better ranking than #3," added offensive captain Taylor Embury, "It's definately more accurate. According to the poll, we've got a couple of top ten teams on our schedule. If we can pull out a win against one of those teams, and not have any stupid losses, we have a chance to get even higher."
Co-captain AJ Tupper noted that, "We can't get cocky. We've played two sub-par teams and the weather has screwed us over for practice time, so we need to build off of it as oppossed to being complacent. The #3 means absolutely jack shit."
Coach Dan Hunter simply said, "Let's keep climbing!"
As you can see, the poll is good news for the direction of the team, but is nowhere near satisfactory for anyone on it.
Mines travels to University of New Mexico and Northern Arizona University(22) this upcoming week over their spring break .
