Preparation:

The Men's Lacrosse Team here at Mines is alive and well. They are a part of the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference, have a strong backing by the school and have great participation. The Women's Team, on the other hand, is struggling a little bit and needs girls that want to play.

Every year, there is an outpouring of support for a women's team, BUT nobody ever steps up and keeps their commitment. This is the year to change. (2008 season) If we take just one year as a start-up team, we can become the biggest, baddest team on campus by 2009!

With the help of a few men's players as temporary coaches and a few girl captains, Mines Women's Lacrosse CAN be a reality! We already know for a fact that plenty of girls here have the experience and the skill. Other girls out there have never played, but want to learn everything they can so they can play to their heart's content. We just need the organization and this is the start!

Planned Events:

  • Informal meeting in the first two weeks of school
  • Planned practices once or twice a week in the fall with scrimmages against local teams
  • If there are enough girls playing, a start-up season will be scheduled for the spring (6 games)
  • Spring Season to start at the beginning of February.
  • Practices three to four days a week with games on Fridays.
  • End of the Year Cookout/Scrimmage with the Men's Team
  • Due to the team not being a part of the local league, playoffs will not be possible, but next year is in the bag!

Expectations:

  • The first meeting will be mandatory.
  • Helping out with random team tasks (organizing, helping set up drills, administrative tid-bits)
  • Showing up at the Celebration of Mines to help or say, Hello!"
  • Showing up to practices will be mandatory unless a coach or captain is contacted by you 1-hour before practice and a legitament excuse is explained. (Legitament excuses include: family emergencies, studying for a big test, you're dying or dead.) (We want girls who want to play!!!)
  • Cost: Obviously, we don't know how much this costs yet. We don't have a number of participants down and don't know what we'll be planning. (The school supplies fields and some equipment can be borrowed from the men's team for now. 100% free.) If practices go well and scrimmages or games are scheduled, we will need to pay for 1)transportation, 2)referrees, 3)field use or paint. That being said, if we have 20 girls, at $20 or $25 bucks a piece, we should be fine. (That's a great deal given the men's team pays $250-400 a season)
