“Prayer Room on Campus: Necessity or Convenience?” |
|
One of the difficulties that I have
experienced on our campus is the lack of a
prayer room. Yes, the Islamic Center of
Golden is a five minute drive from our
campus but not all students have cars.
Actually, driving to the Mosque makes the
situation even worse because students are
usually then faced with another nightmare
which is finding a parking spot in time to
make it to their next class. Allah says in
the Quran in chapter 2 verse 103, “Verily,
the prayer is enjoined on the believers at
fixed hours”.
If a student’s classes
cover the times of two consecutive prayers
like Dhuhr and Asr, then how would he/she
pray at the fixed hour of the prayer? With
only ten minutes between classes our only
hope is to have a prayer room on campus to
be able to pray on time and still make it to
our next class. Muslims are a significant
part of CSM’s student body and therefore I
think that we should be able to convince the
school to allocate a room for us to pray in.
That would not only show how supportive the
school is of Muslim students but also how
tolerant they are with different groups that
exist on our campus regardless of their
race, ethnicity and religion.
