Antonito is located in South Central Colorado, just 30 miles south of Alamosa, nestled in the mountains of the San Luis Valley. The Spanish and Indians settled the area and is therefore primarily of Spanish/Mexican decent. A small town atmosphere is definitely present in the area. With a population of only about 1,200 people, Antonito offers a very friendly atmosphere which provides the feeling of one big family.
Perhaps the biggest attraction in the area is the historic Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad which is a Registered National Historic Site.
The area is also home to seven different churches. One of them has the distinction of being the Oldest Church in Colorado. Other churches feature some magnificent murals centered around the community and the Virgin Mary.
