Colorado School of Mines always has a good-sized turn out at both fall and Spring Career Days. This year, though, the turnout was even better than last spring, with 79 companies in attendance. Held on February 15, 2005 in Friedhoff Hall of the Green Center, this year’s event offered students 20% more employers than in previous years, including 7 companies who were new to campus. For many company representatives, it was their first visit to the Colorado School of Mines, and for some, their first visit to a career fair. Representatives ranged from experienced technicians to recent alumni of CSM, and a sprinkling of additional staff. Praise for CSM students was unanimous. Each company reiterated their impression that Colorado School of Mines students, freshmen through seniors, were well-prepared.

TheFacebook.com Coming to Mines
In case you have not heard of TheFacebook.com, it’s the latest tool in social networking for college campuses. Chris Houghes, co-founder and ‘Press Guy’ for TheFacebook, describes it as, “an online directory that connects people through social networks at colleges and universities. We wanted students to have control over what information they would like to provide to their peers—screen names, favorite movies, classes, and friends. Thefacebook is a resource for both information and communication, but at the same time, is fun to use.”
