EMPTY NEST ALERT!

Oh Dear. Panicking about the empty space and free time, you are unprepared and frightened to cut the cord. Being a parent is a huge part of your identity. You’re not sure what you’ll do with yourself or how you’ll cope.

Accept certain givens: This is a difficult time. Letting go is never easy, even when it’s the best, right thing to do. In the interest of your emotional perseverance and your kid’s success, you need to hold it together. Talk to other parents who are in the same boat. Take some well-earned time on your own to reflect.

Think about the interests you haven’t had the time to pursue between parenting and working. Let new possibilities emerge alongside your feelings of loss, and then explore your options. Cultivate new, exciting pastimes. You’ll see you’re not alone - Your feelings of loss, regret and emptiness are entirely normal. Don’t suffer too long or too hard.
