Which campus organizations or groups might want to use CSM Groups?Social organizations like the Ballroom Dance club, ANIME or Greek Fraternities or Sororities Academic groups such as WISEM, the Minority Engineering Program or study groups International student groups such as the Asian or Malaysian Student Associations Departments, Service Groups, Campus Committees and Athletic Teams Any officially registered student organization
What types of groups are available through CSM Groups?Public groups: Public groups are open for any Trailhead user to join. Restricted groups: Membership in restricted groups is subject to certain criteria. For example, to access a group home page for an academic or social fraternity, an individual must first be accepted as a member of that organization. The Join Group button for Restricted groups takes you to a form to submit a request to join the group. Hidden groups: Hidden groups are not displayed in the group category index and do not have a guest view page. Hidden groups are typically used to publish and discuss sensitive information that should not be available even in a restricted group. Group members in hidden groups must be added to the group by a group leader.
How do I see the available groups and join a group?Select the CSM Groups iconin the upper right corner of the Trailhead screen, then select the Groups Index link
or tab
to browse the list of available on-line groups. Public groups are indicated with a green page icon
. Restricted groups are indicated with a yellow page icon
. Both public and restricted groups should have some information about the group available on their guest view page.
Once you have found a group that you would like to join, if the group is a public group you can join by selecting the Join Group button. For restricted groups, the Join Group button
takes you to a form to request to join the group.
How do I request that a group be created?Select the CSM Groups icon (upper right).
Select the Request Group link or tab
.
Student groups that are registered with the Student Activities Office should select a sub-category within the Student Organizations category. For help filling in the request form, use the Help link (upper right) or refer to the CSM Groups policy (http://www.mines.edu/academic/computer/policies/CSMgroupspolicy.pdf). A Groups Administrator will review your request and email notification of approval/denial will be sent to the Requester.
