SEARCH HELP
This program searches a
SWISH index
of the materials pertinent to the courses named above.
The default mode searches the entire doccument, including the body
of the text. You may narrow
the search to the title, head, headers and emphasised text --
singally, or in combination. You may not narrow the search to
the body only.
You may search on single words or Boolean combinations of words.
The search is not case sensitive.
For example, entering:
- 'dog and cat'
- will return a list of all
files containing both the word 'dog' and the word 'cat' in the
selected fields;
- 'dog or cat'
- will return a list of all files containing either the word
'dog' or the word 'cat' in the selected fields;
- 'not cat'
- will return a list of all files not containing the word
'cat' in the selected fields.
The program is smart enough to recognize the Boolean connectives
'and', 'or' and 'not' and treat them accordingly, rather than as
words to find.
Sequences of single words like 'cat dog rat' will be reated as
if they were separated by 'and'.
The program can not recognize phrases. Thus, the best you can
do in searching for 'Rio Grande' is simply to enter 'Rio Grande'
which will be treated as 'rio and grande'.
