"Gyotaku"
is a term that consists of two Japanese words, gyo=fish
and taku=impression.
Traditional gyotaku is made using black ink only. Apply black ink
on a fish, place a Japanese rice paper "washi" on it,
rub thoroughly, and carefully peel off the paper. Draw the eye,
wirte its size and weight, and sign. Colored gyotaku is more realistic
and artistic. Therefore, we call it "Japanese
Fish Art".
Direct
Method
: Color paint is directly applied onto the fish and its impression
is taken on a rice paper. The idea is as same as wood-block printing.
The only part that is painted by hand is the eye. This is the
method we use.
In-direct
Method
: After placing a rice paper on the fish, paint the fish on it.
