Dear Mines Community:

As you are aware, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the State of Colorado and Jefferson County announced changes to their COVID-19 guidance in recent days.  We are currently examining the impacts of those changes to campus and will communicate any policy updates as soon as we are able.

In the meantime, Mines’ mask policy (as revised 4/21 to remove the outdoor mask requirement) remains in effect on campus.

Face masks that cover the nose and mouth are still required when inside any university facility, regardless of vaccination status. The only scenarios in which masks are not required indoors are as follows:

  • When a person is alone in an enclosed individual office or laboratory,
  • When a person is in the residence hall room or campus apartment in which they reside.
  • When a person is actively eating or drinking.

In all these scenarios, however, you must have a face mask with you and must put that face mask on whenever you encounter another person, or someone enters your space.

The CDC’s new guidance on masks also reinforces the importance that members of our campus community get vaccinated for COVID-19 as soon as possible AND report their vaccinations to Mines.  When fully vaccinated (two weeks after your second dose of Pfizer/Moderna or the single-dose Johnson & Johnson), please use this secure portal to self-report your vaccination so we can implement informed health and safety protocols for campus.

We’ll be in touch as soon as we have additional updates to provide. Thanks for your ongoing commitment to keeping our campus community safe.

Regards,

Peter Han
