The following message was sent to all Mines employees on 4/9/20:

Dear Mines employees,

First, I want to thank you for your incredible work to continue the Mines mission during these challenging and uncertain times.  We remain a strong and devoted community because of your tireless efforts and we cannot sufficiently express our gratitude.

In March, the United States congress passed a federal law entitled the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, or FFCRA.  The FFCRA has many provisions including providing food funding assistance, expanded unemployment compensation, and other financial relief provisions.  In addition, the FFCRA created two, temporary leave provisions.  These new leave provisions apply when an employee cannot perform their work for certain reasons related to the novel coronavirus known as COVID-19.  The new leave provisions provide eligible employees who cannot work (either remotely or on campus for essential/critical employees) with Emergency Paid Sick Leave (EPSL) and Emergency Public Health Leave (EPHL) for certain, specified reasons related to COVID-19.

Please see the two attached documents for more information. The documents include:

  1. A poster created by the U.S. Department of Labor to provide a high-level summary of the new leave provisions; and
  2. A Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document that provides significantly more detail on the leave provisions, eligibility and how Mines plans to implement these new leave provisions.

Please take some time to review both of these documents as they contain important information.  If you believe you are eligible for either of the two new leaves, the FAQs describe how you can apply.

Thank you again for your dedication and please do not hesitate to contact Human Resources at hrcovid19@mines.edu or 303.273.3250.
