Postdoctoral researcher position available at Colorado School of Mines

The Mines Glaciology Laboratory is seeking a motivated postdoctoral scholar to work with NASA’s Operation IceBridge Science Team and ICESat-2 Science Definition Team to develop and validate processing algorithms and data products for multi-mission, multi-platform time series of dynamic ice-surface evolution. The specific research direction will be developed based on the skills and interest of the applicant in consultation with our collaborators at Scripps Institution of Oceanography and Earth and Space Research, but will generally be targeted toward advancing altimetry applications on grounded or floating ice and non-ice terrestrial reference surfaces (e.g., dry lakes).

Ideal applicants should hold, at the start of the appointment, a PhD in glaciology, geophysics, geodesy, electrical engineering, computer science, astrophysics, or a related topic with the documented ability to publish results in peer-reviewed journals. Previous experience in the processing, analysis, and visualization of large remote sensing datasets is essential. Additional preferred skills include: proficiency with scientific programming and high-performance computing; a solid understanding of geodetic, numerical, and/or data science methods; and effective oral and written scientific communication.

Starting date is negotiable, but the ideal candidate would be able to start on 1 August 2019. The position is for one year, with renewal for a second year subject to performance. Salary and benefits will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Mines provides an attractive benefits package including fully paid health insurance, dependent tuition benefits, parental leave policies, and dependent care assistance through a flexible spending plan.

To apply for this position please send a 1-2 page application letter that includes a brief statement of research interests, your CV, your dissertation abstract, and the names of three referees by email to Matthew Siegfried (siegfried@mines.edu) by 1 July 2019 with the subject line “Postdoc application 2019”. Please feel free to email if there are any questions about the scope of the position or experience requirements.

The position will be located in the Department of Geophysics at Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado.
