Going abroad can be intimidating, and it can be difficult to know where to begin. By planning early, we can help you make sure that going abroad does not delay your graduation. Things to consider when choosing a location and program:

2. APPLY TO MINES EDUCATION ABROAD

To study abroad you first need to complete the Mines online study abroad application. This application is submitted to Mines Education Abroad and ensures you are approved by the university. This application also connects you to Mines Education Abroad for important post-acceptance requirements such as course approval, required insurance, and pre-departure orientation.

As a Mines Student, you need to meet these requirements:

  1. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 (some individual program requirements may be higher)
  2. In good standing with Colorado School of Mines (not on academic or disciplinary probation)

The Mines application can be accessed via the Study Abroad Portal link.

It is highly recommended to read the Getting Started information before beginning an application.

Questions about the application itself? View FAQs here.

Keep in mind that programs and host universities often have separate application processes that you will also need to complete in order to be considered for that program.

3. NOMINATION AND APPLICATION TO HOST UNIVERSITY

After you have submitted your application, Mines Education Abroad will review the applications and notify applicants who have been accepted. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis before the deadline, 1-2 weeks after submission. This process is generally not competitive.

Please make sure you are aware of the application requirements of your host program. If you are unsure of the process for your particular program, please contact Mines Education Abroad (abroad@mines.edu) to ask for more clarification.
