To earn a degree, all graduate students are required to submit a Degree Audit form, listing all the credits required to earn the degree. This form must be submitted by the deadline the semester prior to graduation.
- Prior to submitting the Degree Audit form, thesis based students are required to submit a Thesis Committee and Advisor Assignment Request form.
The Office of Graduate Studies (OGS) only enforces and monitors institutional degree requirements:
- Minimum number of credits
- PHD
- 72-90 semester hour credits, depending on degree
- Minimum of 18 semester hours of course credit
- Minimum of 24 semester hours of research credit
- MS
- 30-38 semester hours credits, depending on degree
- Minimum of 6 semester hours of research credit (thesis students only)
- PHD
- Course/ credit degree requirements
- OGS only looks at courses/credits listed on the Degree Audit form.
- Departmentally required courses not listed on the Degree Audit form are presumed to be waived by the department.
- Changes to courses listed on the Degree Audit form must be submitted on the Addendum to Degree Audit form.
- GPA
- 3.0 cumulative GPA
The Office of Graduate Studies DOES NOT enforce or monitor:
- Departmental degree requirements. Students who have questions about specific departmental requirements need to consult with their advisor.
- The department needs to enforce departmental requirements by making sure that all courses and research credits required for a degree are listed on the Degree Audit form.
- Pre-requisites or deficiencies cannot be listed on the Degree Audit form. It is up to the Departments to monitor pre-requisites and deficiencies.
