Welcome to Mines!

The Office of Graduate Studies will host an in-person Orientation on August 15 and August 16, 2023 in the Student Center, Grand Ballroom.

Orientation is expected for all new students and required for those on RA/TA contracts.

August 15 – Rooms A, B & C

9:30 – Check-In & Coffee/Tea

10:00 – 10:15 Welcome and Staff Introductions

10:15 – 10:30 Roadmap for Grad School

10:30 – 11:15 Q&A with Current MS Thesis and PHD Graduate Students

11:15 – 12:00 RA/TA Faculty Oath with MAPS Staff

12:00 – 1:00 Lunch Break (Mines Market Vouchers) & Resource Fair – Student Center & Maple Plaza

1:00 – 2:30 HR Training for New RA/TA Employees

August 16 – Rooms A, B & C

8:30 – 9:00 Breakfast

9:00 – 9:45 RA Orientation/Information Session

9:45 – 11:30 Interactive TA Training Session Led by Trefny Center – Note: please bring a web-enabled device (phone, laptop, or tablet)

A virtual orientation is offered through Canvas. Canvas is a platform used at Colorado School of Mines for academic courses, both face-to-face and online. Mines students use Canvas to access their courses, submit assignments and communicate with instructors and peers. Faculty will use Canvas to grade assignments and communicate with students. Please log into Canvas and then enroll yourself into the Graduate Student Orientation Course.
