Summer Registration Requirements

Unlike fall and spring registration, which is required, summer registration is optional unless a student is in a category that requires registration.

Student Graduating in August:

Who plan to check-out early (check-out by May deadline)Do Not need to register for summer , unless continuing on with another degree and using campus resources for that degree in the summer.* Students working on research in the summer must register for research credits in summer II.

Students Graduating in December:

STUDENTS on a SUMMER RA CONTACT:Must register for 3 credits of research in summer II (no exception to this rule). Since 1 credit in the summer cost exactly the same as 4 credits, students may register for the required 3 credits of research + an additional credit of the students choice at no extra cost.
STUDENTS on a SUMMER TA or HOURLY CONTACT:Do Not need to register for summer, unless using campus resources in the summer*. Students working on research in the summer must register for research credits in summer II.
STUDENTS NOT on a SUMMER RA CONTRACT & NOT GRADUATING (see above for details) : Do Not need to register for summer, unless using campus resources in the summer*. Students working on research in the summer must register for research credits in summer II.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

*Campus Resources: Any student using campus resources in the summer MUST register for summer credits.

Examples of campus resources (other examples may apply) include working:
● in a campus lab
● with an advisor or committee members (research, thesis content, defending)
● with other students (on research)
● with CSM staff (formatting thesis, checking out)

Summer II Research Registration

Although summer II does not begin until mid-summer, research registration covers the student’s registration requirement for the entire summer.
