Please congratulate Paul Varosy (UG) for his selection as a Goldwater Scholar. Also congratulations to Jesse Hudspeth (GR), winner of a Fulbright scholarship. Paul will receive funding for his junior and senior years at Mines. Jesse’s Fulbright will allow him to do research at the Medical University of Innsbruck in Austria under the direction of Dr. Bernhard Rupp. He will also conduct research at the Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology in Jena, Germany under the direction of Dr. Dirk Hoffmeister.
We also wish to thank the members of the faculty and staff who encouraged students to apply, offered suggestions to make the application stronger and relevant to the scholarship criteria. The Writing Center reviewed essays and content of the application. Thanks also to the the selection committee. They had the difficult task to evaluate and ultimately nominate CSM’s candidates (Goldwater, for example, allows only 5 nominations).
