Orientation Step 3: Fall Kickoff
Fall Kickoff- August 17-20, 2023
Kick off the school year with a series of fun events!
Join us for our back-to-school traditions. Fall Kickoff includes many of our campuses’ beloved traditions including the M-Climb and Convocation and is intended to help new students adjust to life at Mines in preparation for their first week of classes. This series of events will help the entire first-year and transfer class begin to get comfortable and make campus their own.
Fall Kickoff Check-In
New students who are living on campus will check-in for Fall Kickoff during their move-in process at their residence hall on their assigned move-in day. During check-in, new students will receive their hard hat, convocation fight-song t-shirt, class t-shirt, and other information regarding Fall Kickoff. Commuter, transfer, and exchange students not living on campus will be able to check-in for Fall Kickoff on Thursday, August 17 from 8am-4pm MDT in the New Student & Transition Services office, which is in the Student Center, 1st floor, Suite E110 (across from the SAIL office).
Schedule
A finalized Fall Kickoff schedule will be available on this website in July. However, you can expect activities to start on Thursday, August 17 in the evening and last through Sunday, August 20.
Convocation and New Student & Family BBQ Details
Just like graduation symbolizes the end of a student’s university experience, Convocation marks the beginning of a student’s academic career at Mines and officially starts the Fall Kickoff schedule. Students, this is an opportunity for you and your family to participate in your first official event as an Oredigger. You will hear from faculty, alumni and fellow students about their Mines experience and learn about the rich traditions of our university.
This year, there will be 3 Convocations and New Student & Family BBQs and that correspond with Residence Life move-in days. We ask that you please attend the Convocation & BBQ on your assigned move-in day. Any commuter and exchange students not living on campus as well as all incoming transfer students will attend Convocation & the BBQ on Thursday, August 17. Each Convocation will start at 5:00pm MDT with the BBQs following immediately after. Please note, Convocation will take place in Bunker Auditorium in the Green Center on 8/12 and 8/14 and then will move to Lockridge Arena inside the Student Recreation Center on 8/17.
New undergraduate students do not need tickets and each new student can bring up to 2 guests for the 8/12 and 8/14 Convocations and 3 guests for the 8/17 Convocations. There are no limits for BBQ tickets.
Tickets for Convocation and the New Student & Family BBQ are limited and available on a first come, first served basis. Each Convocation will also be live streamed on the Mines YouTube Channel.
