Launch FAQs

What is Launch?

Launch is our 1-day orientation program for incoming new students and their families/support systems. The schedule is filled with a variety of presentations, family/support systems sessions, peer discussions, resource fairs, and conference-style presentations. We currently offer both virtual & in-person sessions.

Is Launch required?

Attending Launch is required for new students. Please contact nest@mines.edu if you are unable to attend any of the virtual or in-person sessions.

Where do you park for Launch?

A few days prior to your registered Launch session, you will receive an email with lots of information, including parking details. For summer 2023, we are able to provide free parking in one lot on campus as well as several pay-to-park options on campus. Stay tuned for more details!

What do I need to bring with me to Launch?

If you are attending in-person Launch, you will want to wear comfortable shoes as you will do some walking around campus during the day. Summer days are hot, but occasionally we have thunderstorms, so bring an umbrella. Most of the sessions will take place indoors in the air-conditioned buildings, so bring a sweater or small jacket as well. If you are attending the Virtual Launch day, feel free to have a pen, some snacks, and a water bottle near you as you engage in the virtual sessions throughout the day.

I want to see my residence hall room during Launch. Is this possible?

Unfortunately, no. During the summer months, the residence halls are occupied by summer camps and conferences and for safety reasons, residence hall room tours are not available. However, if you are attending the in-person Launch sessions, there will be a set-up of the physical furniture available to see during the resource fairs. Additionally, the Residence Life website has information about reach residence hall with pictures, room dimensions, and other important details. You can find more information by clicking here: https://www.mines.edu/residence-life/first-year-housing/

What meals are provided at in-person Launch?

Both students and their guests will be provided with a continental breakfast and lunch during the Launch day.

What does the Launch schedule look like?

We are still in the process of finalizing the Launch schedule. You can expect to hear a welcome from Mines administration, some morning presentations from important offices on campus, specific sessions for families/support systems, peer discussions for students, an academic advising overview for students, resource and major fairs, and conference-style presentations. If you are attending the in-person Launch, you will be provided with a specific schedule during check-in, which will start at 8am. If you are attending the Virtual Launch Day, you will receive the agenda via email a few days prior to your registered Launch day.
