Dear Colorado School of Mines Neighbors,

We will be kicking off the 2024-25 academic year on Monday, August 19, 2024. Before the academic year begins, we have a series of events welcoming our incoming class, as well as welcoming back returning students. Our resident students will move in over the course of three days, which coincides with other welcome events. The schedule for move-in and Convocation is as follows:

Saturday, August 10 – Residence Hall move-in from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., followed by Convocation and Welcome BBQ from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Sunday, August 11 – Residence Hall move-in from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., followed by Convocation and Welcome BBQ from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday, August 13 – Residence Hall move-in from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

One of our most treasured traditions, the M Climb, will take place on Friday, Aug. 16. The first wave will depart our South Intramural Field beginning at 7:30 a.m., followed by the second wave at 8:30 a.m. We anticipate traffic delays along Elm St. between 17th and 19th, and delays along the traffic circle, as our new students begin their trek up Mt. Zion.

On move-in days (Aug. 10, 11, & 13), the traffic pattern on 17th Street becomes a one-way street. Please reference the attached diagram.

Convocation is the official ceremony welcoming our newest Orediggers and their families to Mines. We thank you in advance for your patience and support as we introduce these new students and their families to our Mines community and prepare them for what is to come.

On Saturday, Aug. 10 and Sunday, Aug. 11 Convocation is held in Lockridge Arena, inside the Student Recreation Center. We anticipate additional vehicle and pedestrian traffic in the area around the Student Recreation Center between Elm & Illinois and 13th & 18th Streets, as well as a general increase of activity around campus.

In addition to move-in, Convocation, and M Climb, we will also be hosting a series of activities as part of our orientation, referred to as Helluva Welcome. This year, most new students will be attending Oredigger Camp in the Rocky Mountains after they move-in. There will be a large coach bus presence on campus on both Sunday, August 11 and Tuesday, August 13 as our students depart campus. The full schedule of events for Helluva Welcome can be found via this link: https://www.mines.edu/new-student-transition-services/helluva-welcome/
