Sports and Recreation

Located in the scenic foothills of the Rocky Mountains, the City of Golden provides a welcoming and diverse setting for the Mines community to enjoy. Whether enjoying Colorado’s famous outdoor adventures or exploring more urban activities, Golden’s centralized location is also perfect for heading out in any direction. There are about a dozen major ski areas within a one- to three-hour drive from campus, and downtown Denver and Boulder are within 20 miles of Mines, offering all the recreational opportunities of a vibrant, metropolitan area.

In addition to 18 NCAA Division II athletic teams, Mines offers 18 competitive clubs, intramurals (over 550 teams in 2016-2017), a state-of-the-art recreation center and an outdoor recreation center with a wide range of outdoor equipment to rent, and one of the nation’s best combinations of facilities with the Clear Creek Athletics Complex.

Student Recreation Center

Completed in 2007, the SRC is home to Lockridge Arena as well as the Mines Natatorium(home to swimming). The SRC offers numerous recreational spaces, including a rec gym with elevated jogging track, fitness center, a competition-quality rock climbing wall, three multi-purpose dance/fitness studios, and general locker room space.

Outdoor Recreation Center

From back packs to bike helmets to climbing and camping gear to kayaks to sports equipment of all kinds, the ORC has the gear to get you outside doing all of the activities that Colorado is known for.

Club Sports

Mines offers 18 competitive club sports and hosted 65 intercollegiate competitions on campus last year.

On a typical night, intramurals and club sports supports 25 program hours at 8 different facilities, serving over 500 students every night.

Oredigger Athletics

Mines fields 18 NCAA Division II varsity sports teams and many are dominant forces in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).
