We are very excited to share that we have new prefixes for teaching classes at Mines! They are SCED and MAED, Science Education and Math Education respectively (formerly our classes were under SYGN).

This Spring we are offering:

  • SCED 262: K-12 Field Experience
    • Thursday 6:00-6:50pm
    • This 1 credit course is the ideal way to try out teaching. Assist in a classroom alongside an experienced mentor teacher. Requirements include a total of 25 hours in the classroom and a 50 minute weekly seminar. Repeatable. Classroom hours are work-study eligible.
  • SCED 398 Dynamic Teaching: Motivation, Classroom Management, and Differentiation of Instruction
    • This course will cover the field-defining theories of motivation, classroom management, and differentiation. Additionally, this course will introduce research-based practices that can be used to create learning environments where students are motivated and given the tools to be successful in their individual learning.

If you are interested in pursuing a teaching license, we work with a few local Colorado programs that offer licensure once you graduate from Mines and begin your career as a teacher. For more detailed info please see our licensure page or the attached flyer.

  • Featured program: ASPIRE to Teach
    • ASPIRE to Teach is a certification pathway through CU Denver that assists in the job location process and supports new teachers with a math or science mentor during their first year.
    • Graduates can begin any time throughout the academic year. Compensation: Full teacher salary. Fees: $6,000.
  • Campus Involvement: TEA
