Clean Combustion using NH3/H2
Colin Wolden
cwolden@mines.edu
Project Goals and Description:
NH3 is a clean burning fuel with only water as a byproduct the potential to substitute for hydrocarbons in application ranging from turbines to engines. However it is difficult to burn directly, but through its partial decomposition one can create NH3/H2 mixtures with tunable properties. In this project we would investigate the stability of these flames, optimize their operation with the goal of maximizing flame temperature and minimizing emissions such as NOx.
