Project Goals and Description:
This project aims to develop a collaborative virtual reality suite for visualization of various geosciences phenomena. It will cover examples from various training scenarios for subsurface engineering studies to visualization and exploration of deep Earth's interior. For local-scale subsurface engineering studies, an underground tunnel for visualizing subterranean characteristics and environmental conditions for Earth-science education is considered. For global-scale deep Earth interior, will be taken into account. The immersive VR system allows for the interaction of multiple users. It is equipped with a high-precision tracking system where users can physically walk in the virtual environment without experiencing motion sickness, a well-known problem in classical systems. The developed tools will serve to enhance research & education in earth science and engineering studies.
Students will with the graduate students and meet with faculty weekly. They will be given a study plan with deliverables and students will present their progress in the meetings. Students will have access to previously developed models to advance the given tasks
