Project Goals and Description:

This project involves analyzing existing water quality data from the Five important watersheds in the Arequipa region of southern Peru.  Data is available from field campaigns collected by Mines researchers, and also data held by Peruvian agencies.  The project involves a spatial analysis of water quality data, identifying problems and determining if problems can be attributed to current land uses.   Next, analysis of future water quality issues is conducted based on projected future land uses and future climate change.   The student will work with post-doctoral researchers at Mines and at a university in the Arequipa region, Peru.
