IMURF – 1:40 Scaled Model of a Longwall Coal Mine for Explosion Testing
Jürgen Brune | jbrune@mines.edu
Greg Bogin, Jr. | gbogin@mines.edu
This project investigates mine ventilation and explosion prevention in underground coal mines. Such explosions are a major safety hazard for miners. We work between Mining and Mechanical Engineering. The work involves mine ventilation, explosion prevention, remote control, 3-D printing, motorized mining equipment at model scale. There are 6 graduate and undergraduate students working on this project.
