3D modeling for modular wood construction planning

Hongyan Liu | hyliu@mines.edu

New type of wood construction rely on prefabricated building components to make the construction more efficient both in time and material used. This project will assist an on-going large scale building test project to conduct 3D modeling of a 10-story wood building (will be designed in the on-going project) specifically for constructability check and sequencing. The building will be a full-scale mass timber structure made out of cross laminated timber and glulam beams/columns. The vision is to include all details of the design in a pre-construction 3D model and virtually construct the building in advance to help identify any potential issues.

More Information

students can look at this video to have an idea on the building they will model in detail. THis video is only a preliminary model, we need detailed model for every connection and components
