Monitoring Tailing Dams using Remote Sensing

Sebnem Duzgun | duzgun@mines.edu

The project aims at the development of hyperspectral image analysis methods for monitoring the impacts of tailings dam failures. Gold King Dam failure and Dam failures in Brasil are the case study areas. As these areas cover a large extent, the use of satellite and airborne images for monitoring the impact is an efficient method. The student will learn how to implement remote sensing methods and GIS in environmental monitoring of large areas.
