*Security and Privacy Analysis of Smartphone Apps

We use a number of apps on our smartphones. Those apps often collect a lot of
sensitive information, such as user location and contacts, to improve
their usability and functionality, etc. However, it is not clear if apps
provide strong protections to the collected sensitive information
or not. In this project, we design user studies, new algorithms,
and new systems to analyze the security and privacy of smartphone apps.

Student Preparation
Qualifications
Students who major in Computer Science or already took some 200-level CS courses.
TIME COMMITMENT (HRS/WK)
4~5 hours per week.

Research methodology; system design principles and skills; research paper reading, presentation, and writing; communication.
