The activities are placed in specific years below based off staff and faculty recommendations, but you can participate in most of them at any time. There is never a wrong time to get involved if you’re looking, and no pressure to do any of these things!
Get to know Civil Engineering
Students in Civil Engineering get to explore soil mechanics, structural theory, foundation design, steel and concrete structures, with a broad range of technical electives including surveying, construction engineering, environmental engineering, water resources and hydrologic engineering. They use sophisticated high-tech products, applying the latest in numerical analysis, computer-aided design, project scheduling, and cost control. Civil engineering focuses on design and construction of essential facilities, from bridges and buildings to dams with emphasis on sustainable development and environmental improvement.
A Civil Engineering degree from Mines offers great breadth, with outstanding career opportunities in Architectural Engineering; Coasts, Oceans, Port and Rivers; Construction; Engineering Mechanics; Environmental and Water Resources; Geotechnical Engineering; Structural Engineering; Transportation and Development, and Utility Engineering and Surveying.
