October 11, 2021 | In this interpersonal workplace communication workshop, you will learn ways to improve and enhance your communication within a professional setting.  We will practice skills in self-advocacy and boundary setting, healthy communication in the workplace, and communication under stress.  Presented in partnership with the Wellness Center.

October 21 | Dr. Kristine Callan, Professor of Physics at Mines, leads a discussion on Imposter Phenomenon, learning to recognize characteristics, and strategies to dispel these fears to become a successful professional.

October 22 | This workshop examines general writing tips, email etiquette, and gives participants the opportunity to practice using their newfound skills.  Hosted by Meg Allyn, PASCAL Center.

October 29 | Colleen Budzinski, Assistant Director of Constituent Relations at Mines and Instructor of Communications at Red Rocks Community College, offers a crash course in public speaking for ways to effectively engage with all audiences.

SIGNATURE VIP EVENT: The Fine Art of Building Business Relationships (Etiquette Dinner)

October 7 | Debra Fine, nationally recognized keynote speaker, best-selling author, and conversation expert, joins us for an interactive dinner in which she presents her fast-paced, interactive, and entertaining presentation based on her book, The Fine Art of Small Talk. Attendees will also have an opportunity to learn formal dinner etiquette and a chance to interact with professionals from various industries.

Cross-Industry Communication: Lessons from Leading a City's First Mixed Income Housing Development

February 28 | —It’s not easy to bring people from different industries together.  It’s even more challenging to get people with very different opinions—real estate developers, environmentalists, local residents, government officials, and engineers—to work together.  Meg O’Connell has first-hand experience uniting diverse stakeholders around a common project.  Learn how she’s led diverse teams to build the first mixed income housing units and a food hall for BIPOC entrepreneurs in a Syracuse, NY.  Meg will share her leadership philosophy, how she navigates conversations with people with different opinions, and how she inspires teams to keep moving forward.

Join Kerry Siggins, Mines alumna and CEO of global manufacturer StoneAge Tools, for a practical session on giving and receiving feedback. You’ll learn how to approach someone with feedback, how to structure feedback conversations, and how to appropriately follow up afterwards.  Kerry will share how her commitments to authenticity, clarity and kindness guide her feedback conversations every day.

VIP Professional Development Symposium

March 31 | The Mines VIP Professional Development program will be hosting our first annual VIP symposium on March 31, 2022.  New York Times best-selling author and keynote speaker Lindsey Pollack will be joining us to talk about navigating your career in today’s rapidly evolving employment and work landscape, followed by an afternoon of breakout session on a variety of professional development topics.

An Awkward Person's Guide to Networking

April 5 | Do you find it hard to walk up to people and strike up a conversation? Networking doesn’t have to be as scary and as painful as it many make it out to be.  More often than not, we let fear take over and we get in our own heads about how to navigate this crucial skill.  Learn tips and tricks that can aid to shift your mindset about networking with others.

April 7 | Join us for an intimate conversation with panelists from Ball Aerospace as they share their stories, experiences, and insights in navigating a career in STEM and what owning your professional development entails—especially as a BIPOC community member.  Our panelists come from various backgrounds including experience and education and currently serve in several capacities at Ball Aerospace.

Intern Launch Workshop

April 19 | Orediggers!  Getting ready to start a summer internship?  Learn more adjusting to your internship site, organizational structure, and expectations as an intern. We’ll also be covering time and project management and how to develop your career portfolio, references, and a track record of success.  Our final workshop will also feature a Mines student panel who will share their internship experiences and tips on how to stand out and maximize your success!
